Not quite sure what to pack for the beach? Don’t worry, the Liquid Life locals have you covered. Skipping over the obvious swimsuits, flip-flops ordeal, keep reading to discover all the beach “non-negotiables” and “don’t brings!”
First and foremost, we’re not getting a sunburn this summer. So, load up on the SPF and don’t forget to reapply, especially if you’re out in the sun for extended periods of time!
If you’re looking to listen to some music, don’t forget your speaker! Not having music can really put a damper on the mood! If you need a good playlist suggestion, read our beach playlist blog!
Nobody wants to lay on the sand, so make sure to bring one towel per person. Whether these are used to lay on or dry off with, they will be needed.
A long day on the sand can really work up an appetite, so pack some sandwiches, snacks, drinks, etc, whatever your group prefers! Putting drinks and such in a cooler bag is a great way to keep them cold. If you have access to one, feel free to bring refrigerated food; otherwise it may be best to avoid it.
If you have little ones, you may want to bring some toys for them to play with on the sand. A pail and shovel, sandcastle mold, or a beach ball would be great options! Even if you don’t have young kids, bringing items like a frisbee, spikeball, boogie board, football or volleyball can still keep your group entertained!
Trust me, you’re gonna want these. The bright sun will blind you and you’ll get tired of squinting, so just pack the sunglasses. Protect those eyes!
Going hand in hand with sunglasses, hats will protect your eyes, as well as your face, from the sun. Additionally, hats can keep you cool and help prevent sunburn!
Now, this one is optional. Some people really prefer sitting in a chair under an umbrella, but others prefer to lay flat on a towel. However, if you’re looking to reduce the amount of sand on yourself, I’d bring a chair.
It’s always a good idea to have some sort of portable first aid kit handy, just incase. It doesn’t need to be anything super fancy, just typical first aid kit essentials.
If you have little ones that need floaties, a life jacket, etc, then definitely don’t forget these! Safety at the beach is so important, especially around crowds.
Forget any of these items on your trip? Its okay, if you need to purchase any of these, we have many local shops that will have them in stock for you.
The Orange Beach Store, Alvin’s Island, Surf Style, Gulf Shores Beach Supply, Gulf Shores City Store, and more!
Lip products with petroleum jelly can actually increase the likelihood of sunburn and damage to your lips. Those who have made this mistake have seen blistered and swollen lips. If you want to use a lip balm, opt for one with SPF in it.
Glass is extremely fragile, and can be harmful in the event that it is broken. Any type or form of glass is prohibited on our beaches. Broken glass is dangerous for both wildlife and beachgoers, so its better to just leave it at home!
Per the Leave Only Footprints website, tents and shelters that exceed 12x12 feet and are taller than 4 feet are not permitted. Be mindful of others and keep towards the back of the beach.
The most important thing to take to the beach is a great attitude! Fussing or fighting with your group is never fun, and you definitely won’t have a fun beach day that way. I know the heat can be a lot, and cause irritability, but an excited attitude can make all the difference.
Liquid Life hopes that you and your crew have some awesome beach days, and that you help keep our beaches clean!
